Professor Brian Gagwilde was a wizard, a Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry,[5] and a Wizard's Chess master.[3]

Biography
Lifetime
He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during his youth.[6] Sometime after he graduated, he wrote the book Jiggery Pokery and Hocus Pocus,[7][4] and became a Hogwarts Headmaster at some point.[5] He was also a fervent Wizard's Chess competitor, and used to play with his contemporary Walter Aragon. He also used to play with Aberforth Dumbledore at the Hog's Head Inn, until he suffered such a crushing defeat that he stopped playing the game altogether.[3]
Post-mortem
Professor Gagwilde died sometime before 1992.[1] In addition to the portrait of the professor hung in the Grand Staircase,[3][8] another one, in which he was depicted as playing a game of chess with Walter Aragon, was placed in the Headmaster's office after his passing to give advice to the current Head.[5]
