Helen Thistlewood was a witch who lived in the late 19th century.
Biography
Helen Thistlewood was the great-niece to Eldritch Diggory, who as she grew up was the Minister for Magic. A star pupil at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, she later joined the British Ministry of Magic as an Auror.[3]
During her role as an Auror, she performed a number of heroic acts to save mankind. She stopped a Ukrainian Ironbelly from terrorising a Muggle city, subsequently Obliviating the populace so that they would forget that it had ever happened. She foiled a Dark wizard's attempt to take over the British Ministry of Magic with Chinese Chomping Cabbages, using only a single basket of Bouncing Bulbs. She put at least one "brute" into Azkaban. She was required to defend her actions before the Wizengamot on several occasions.[4]
At some point during her career, she investigated the death of Richard Jackdaw and the accusation that Anne Thisbe had murdered him. Due to a fraudulent testimony from a jealous Apollonia Black, whose family had many connections at the Ministry, combined with the fact that Anne was Muggle-born, Anne was sentenced to life in Azkaban. Once learning the severity of this mistake, Anne’s fate haunted Helen decades later.
By the 1890–1891 school year, she had retired from being an Auror and was living in the hamlet of Upper Hogsfield.[2] She looked back on her career with pride, but expressed some doubts over how she had failed to catch some criminals, and even how it was possible some people had been put into Azkaban wrongfully. She expressed no regret over this possibility, considering it a necessary sacrifice for the security of the wizarding world.[4]
Personality and traits
Helen had a sense of suspicion; it had crossed her mind that Richard Jackdaw and Apollonia Black might have actually been working together to play a prank on Anne Thisbe that went very wrong. She was very analytical and intelligent, and despite her regret for making mistakes in her career, saw such mistakes as necessary. She wanted to protect the security of the Wizarding World very much, and had a sense of justice.
