Dierne is a hertasi, who personally served Lady Cinnabar during the Mage Wars, rather than being attached directly to the armies.

When the Second was ambushed and overrun by Ma'ar's forces late in the war, every available mage, healer and kestra'chern was put to work on the wounded survivors. Dierne, along with Lysle, helped the exhausted Vikteren to his tent afterward, insuring he received food and a potion for a dreamless sleep.
